Is there a way to make this program invisible?

I have a infrared receiver and an open source program that reads IR codes from any remote control and converts them to keystrokes. The only thing is it takes up space on the taskbar but i want it to be invisible or run in the background. I have the source code and i can compile it. Is there anything i can do to make it invisible? thanks
